Strategy Decks, Intuit Mailchimp

Big Chimpin’, No Cheese

As a contract content creative director at Intuit Mailchimp, I had a specific digital ROI to achieve. I, in partnership with the content, marketing, and product teams, was to provide a “freemium to premium” creative brand solution. The issue was that “freemium” small business customers didn’t want to upgrade to paid subscriptions—and they were leaving for competitors. So, for one year, I studied competitive and consumer data to assess what the fractures and dissatisfactions were in the consumer/Intuit Mailchimp relationship. Through testing, data analysis, and my years of content expertise, I developed a revised strategy to communicate Mailchimp’s values effectively, clearly, and compellingly, with the lens of loyalty and conversion. The overhaul was data-driven, testing-validated, and bought in by all cross-functional leaders. It positions Mailchimp as a serious, stalwart authority in the SaaS space, as part of Intuit. The Final Digital Voice & Tone Audit showcases where Mailchimp messaging started as a standalone startup—and how it evolved as part of a global unit. The Voice & Tone Qualitative Testing deck highlights the rigorous, collaborative efforts required to fairly and efficiently synthesize and leverage data, persuading internal teams to adopt clear truths and new beginnings.
